Five Nights at Frickbear's 3 Guide: Tips for Your First Nights
Everything a new Frickbears 3 player usually asks — what the bars mean, how to earn money, which animatronics need special handling and how Custom Night works — summarised from SpookyRick's own devlogs, patch notes and our browser playthrough.

Before you start
- Wear headphones. The game's opening screen says it relies heavily on audio cues and recommends stereo headphones or earbuds.
- Expect flashing lights and jumpscares. The same screen warns about rapid flashes, loud noises and jumpscares despite the goofy tone.
- Story is standalone. You don't need Frickbear's 1 or 2.
- Read the death tips. When an animatronic gets you, the game-over screen shows a tip about that character (version 1.1.0 added tips for BB and Bon-Bon).
The office HUD explained
Money, minigames and upgrades
The Games tab lists token minigames such as Fredsweeper, Air Adventure, Chica's Feeding Frenzy, Puppet Patrol, Hare Pairs, Pirate Plunder, Circus Sorter, Golden Fredsweeper, Mangle Tangle Mania, Cupcake Clicker and Scott's Slots. In Chica's Feeding Frenzy, for example, you hold the left mouse button to eat pizzas, dodge bombs and build combos for more tokens. Keep an eye on token quotas — a teaser devlog warned "better hope you're hitting those token quotas" — and remember that Toy Freddy can demand you beat his high score.
Between nights, the upgrade shop sells items such as Fuzzy Dice, Backdoor Trading, Early Investment, Overcharge, Cam Radar, Bear Change and Talbert's Files (the official screenshot lists them from $6 up to $80). Salvaging animatronics also pays out — version 1.1.0 raised salvage values by roughly 20–25%.
Animatronics with special mechanics
The base game has over 40 animatronics. These behaviours are confirmed by the developer's own posts and patch notes:
- Foxy — leave the cameras unused too long and he enters rage mode, repeatedly bashing the door (1.1.0 added a sound cue).
- Plushtrap — has an audio cue; flashing the wrong hallway makes him jumpscare you faster.
- The Mimic — hides in one of many mascot suits around the pizzeria; listen for audio cues and deduce where it moved.
- Toy Freddy — tied to high scores in the minigames; his SP version needs eight high scores beaten.
- Balloon Boy and Shadow Freddy — when they sit in the office you lose your flashlight or your light; their SP versions stay there all night.
- Toy Chica — places a cupcake in the office.
- Candy — has a ticking sound cue.
- Withered Freddy, Mr. Hippo, Funtime Freddy & Bon-Bon, Ballora, Dreadbear, Molten Freddy, Scrap Baby, Twisted Wolf, Malhare and LolzHax all received spotlight posts before launch.
- Not everyone is hostile: a devlog notes some animatronics are only there to cheer you on — "just make sure you don't shut them out on accident."
Custom Night: cheats, challenges and SP characters
Custom Night has been in the game since the demo, with more options in the full release:
Cheats
- Enable extra characters (the seven secret characters, once unlocked)
- Enable SP characters (AI levels above 20)
- Infinite power · Unlimited items from Mendo's shop · Freeze temperature at zero
- Jumpscare immunity · Cam Radar on the cam buttons
Night length and guard
Set the night anywhere from 1 to 6 minutes; shorter nights increase power drain and reduce shop prices. The guard you pick in Custom Night is cosmetic only. Version 1.1.0 also added a music selector.
The 20 challenges and SP characters
- Gaming Hard? — SP Toy Freddy: beat eight of his high scores instead of one.
- Blind Mode — SP Balloon Boy (no flashlight all night) and SP Shadow Freddy (survive in the dark).
- Deafening — SP Music Man mutes all sound effects.
- Watchful Eye — SP Malhare: you can flip up the monitor only once.
- The LolzHax Shuffle — SP LolzHax summons three random characters every hour.
Stickers: a gold star for a clear, a deathcoin sticker for clearing without the deathcoin, and a Lolbit sticker for clearing without powerups. The community has pushed the max-difficulty run past the original 40/20 — SpookyRick shared that "47/20 has been beaten" in May 2026.
Frickbears 3 guide FAQ
What are SP characters in Frickbears 3 Custom Night?
SP characters are supercharged versions of certain animatronics unlocked by the "Enable SP characters" cheat, which lets AI levels go past 20. Each one is the focus of a special Custom Night challenge, such as SP Malhare in "Watchful Eye", where you can only flip up the monitor once.
How many Custom Night challenges are there?
There are 20. Beating one earns a gold star sticker, beating it without the deathcoin earns a deathcoin sticker, and beating it without powerups earns a Lolbit sticker. You need 10 deathcoin stickers and 5 Lolbit stickers for their trophies.
How long is a Custom Night?
You can set the night length anywhere from 1 to 6 minutes. Nights shorter than 6 minutes get balance changes such as increased power drain and reduced shop prices.
